Duping the duper

entry picture

Sly pretentions hid in

the words given to this my heart

she thought captured

that it would foolishly believe

were messengers of love.

Her intentions glazed with skilful deception

and perceptions of my enslavement to her foolery

I thought deemed to be poorly schooled in the art of defence against manipulation.

How deviously she had sighted my inner lonelinesses

and how with such trickery netted all chances

to enrol me in her cunning delicious game.

Nay, being not of any measure believing

and unknown to her adept in the craft of awareness

thus did I too let untruths fall with ease from my lips.

And better than that

make for myself, the truly unloved

hidden gains she knows not of.

Happy shall I remain

while small beautiful mercies

bestow themselves upon me.

Why then my need

to question her false attempts

if I be contented awhile?

Since even shallow liquidities of affection

no matter how quickly they flow by

still, provide for the love thirsting soul.

Come, therefore, lady

who rests on the laurels of a non-existent victory

let us both drink of this meagre flow

this short-lived stream.

verily do I thank'eth thee all for thy praises.
That it bring'eth pleasure to thy goodly selves
surely doth it bring'eth in equal measure
the same to this grateful heart of mine.

Wow, a lot of anger in this poem -- and it is presented clearly and well. A strong, emotional piece.
