in corridors of after light

entry picture

Fiery day banked down

subsiding into

a smouldering core of sunset

and you O handsome nocturnal creature

soon to be caressed

by unreeling celestial luminaries

enhancing the fluency of nightfall.

Oft near motionless monarchic observer

surveying your realm of moon powdered fields

with clockwork fashioned turns of the head.

Ghostliness, vigilance

are your talents.

Predatory phantom paley do you unfold

sailing in unilluminated spaces

denying the humming wind or streams unrelenting

stone smoothing song to impair your listening

nor  forgetting

to intermittently offer

the gentility of your monotone call

from respite in shadowed boughs

O spectral avian!

upon the stage of diminishing light

that dark presence you enter

gliding  away from me and into its embrace

receive with no deeper a gratefulness from my soul

whose want of seeing you again in dreamy illusions

will surely be fulfilled in that otherworldliness.

And I beg to differ with you Big Sal they are an essential species when it comes to falconry displays and how many many times have we seen them on tv hunting as good as any predatory bird.

They are magic to watch in the wild especially when hovering in total silence above their prey.

I don't know if you are familiar with a type of owl called a Scops Owl? saw some at a display a few days ago-wow!

a kind of pygmy owl, absolutely stunning.

Thanks for backtracking to this poem

They say owls aren't good birds for falconers to use. I beg to differ.
