in the presence of a short arsed ghost

close to the blank canvas

about to be turned into yet

another eyebrow-raising masterpiece

he selects the first of certain hand worn brushes

with his beautiful imagination on the loose

begins skilfully daubing.

If Toulouse had been looking over his shoulder

standing on a chair no doubt

with his bespectacled and critical eyes, half closed

he would have seen his own influences

being reborn once more

I adore Henri Toulouse Lautrec's Parisienne themed masterpieces so much that I have the odd print hung here and there around the house. This indeed as keith says, enchanting. And I love the humour you have thrown in for good measure Leon. Thank you. Jemima

Leon, there is something entrancing about the last two lines which captures my imagination. I like this poem. Thanks. Keith

fab poem dude. Reminds of that fab film if you haven't seen it the one with Jose Ferrer playing the part of Lautrec.

I forget the title so you may have to bung the actor's name in the google machine
