Love & Marriage

Hearing a Corella as it flies across grey skies, together.

Anticipating the squall, clearing showers of life.

Gutters flowing from Heaven to Earth,

giving birth to clean growth.

The sudden green as parched soil erupts with change.

A fresh day, sun rays, line of pinks or orange,

pale to a bright blue, herald the new;

promise of happiness to come.

Painting walls, making beds, cooking meals together.

Taking note of the colours in our lives.

Remembering that white Corella,

watching the storm, together.

That was a busy week. Sorry I missed this.

Beautifully expressed little work, with the intertwining of such disparate thoughts. And the resultant richness of living.

Why do you capitalise 'Corella'? At first I honestly thought it must be a plane of some sort. Which worked. But I looked it up to discover it is an Australian bird of the cockatoo type. Made more sense.

I like the way you 'stretch!'

A really classy piece of writing, a sensitive portrayal of the natural ebbs and flows of a relationship. A fruitful read in every way.

Thank you Paul and Colin, for such lovely comments. So pleased you didn't think it was too mushy! Shows me you are both romantics at heart. ?

Lovely Frances. I particularly like 'clearing showers of life' which reminds me of how much clearer the summer sky becomes after a rain shower - as if all the dust and grime has been washed down those 'gutters flowing from Heaven to Earth'. The land must feel so refreshed just as we do after taking a shower at the end of a long, hot, dusty summer day.

Beautiful writing Frances. There is so much to like about this poem, especially the descriptions of colours in nature that serve as a reminder of the colour in the relationship (and in all our lives). I note the clever repetition of 'together', too.

Well done.
