A storm without an ark

entry picture

And when reason broke

like the weight of a midnight storm

still, civilisations slumbered

praying to angry gods

The release washed them clean

not in the blood of the lamb

it did not choose those it saved

no marks of privilege on sacred door frames

No passover, no exclusion

the skies emptied their flooded fonts

the new born christened filled their lungs

and puked the dust of ages free

Years passed

the swelling tide subsided

devastation became growth

the course of its flow a gutter

The storm rumbled

through the grateful night

occasional echoes fractured peace

until at last it passed

Thankfully nothing was saved.

Thanks for your reading and comments, Stu & Ray.

The storm kept me up last night, at least I got something out of it.

I like the comparison that appears with the Passover and the storm passing over, and a sort of fruitless praying for safety. It demands to be read and absorbed a few times to really soak in .

i love that. also enjoy the pithy ending and the use of near sacred text for blasphemy
