Wheatfields

In an ivory dress
She walked toward him
Hair brushing her cheeks
An open field of wheat
In the middle of forever

At the center, they met
Blue sky endless above them
Rays of golden sunlight illuminating each breath
Stay with me, he asked her

I will.

He slipped the smallest ring onto her last finger
She looked up at him
Eyes searching, wondering
He looked back, reassuring

He knelt and kissed her hand

And the world stopped turning
Day turned to night turned to day
Clouds became stars and planets,
Wind blew memories and dreams through their hair

And locked in that moment
They did stay
Through every breath taken
From the very first to the very last
Unable to remember yet unable to forget.
