Sleep Peacefully At Last

Twenty seven years of sleepless nights
enduring a lifetime of injustice.
Fighting endlessly to clear the name...
of friends and loved ones wrongly blamed.
Justice should have been swift and free,
but corruption was present from the start
and lay at the heart of this tragedy.
Adding pain and deepening their misery.

Always dignified. Unflinching in their efforts,
the strength it has taken to continue
is impossible to measure.
There are no words.

For each setback and every lie.
Police corruption, inquests and cover ups,
the Hillsborough tragedy has remained
an open wound, unable to heal.

Merseyside has bled together
stood together and fought as one.
Rejected the lies of government and police
and boycotted the evil printed hate in The Sun.

The battle to hold those at fault, accountable continues.
A public stands behind you.
Hold your heads up high
A city united together as one.
Take pride in what your fight has done.
Sleep peacefully at last.
If only for one night.
Walk on as ever,
with hope in your hearts.
You will never walk alone
I hope you will never have to.

This tragedy seems to have its equivalent in nature's
"perfect storm": a combination of causes and effects
coming together in cataclysmic effect - so devastating
it becomes the stuff of disbelief that lingers to haunt
the human psyche that desperately desires to simplify
what seems impossible to comprehend, to find relief
and redemption through appropriations of guilt and innocence.
