This England

entry picture

In piss stained gutters

anger and regret has flowed across ages.

Supped away by the lured and the lied to.

“There's many a slip 'twixt cup and lip”

as there’s many a lie

seen good men die.

So tonight when men bereft of pride

puke and fight in England’s streets,

they do as if to cower and hide

from futures lost to great deceit.

Dedicated to the abandoned warrior (one of many) Michael Robinson

Thanks Martin,

It is timeless I think and could speak of any age. But the imagery of the piece could easily conjure that particular period.

Many thanks.

I was drawn to thinking of those men from the middle ages and napoleonic time who were badly used and abused , tossed away when they had served their country and disregarded, in some cases much like today. succinct and to the point . Nce one Wolfie

Incidentally, Michael Robinson is a friend of mine who is a marvellous poet, he writes under the name "noetic fret" on WoL.

He deserves some reading.

Thank you Robert, it is absolutely both.

There is no doubt that England is a favourable place to live, the sum of that favour leaves a trail of questionable history. I am not ashamed of what I am personally, but am rather pissed off about things that have been and are done in my name.

Many thanks for reading and comments.

Wolfgar - I detect the regret at soldiers lost (mentally, physically or completely) in serving King/Queen and country and the lies that got them into whatever situation the puppet-masters dictated at the time.
Of course, I could be wrong, and your piece could equally serve as a metaphor for deceitful politicians and the current state of Britain (not so Great)!

The lyric of this is brilliant.
