I like this because it leaves the reader completely free to interpret 'Words fail' as a very positive or very negative attitude to this intensive lifestyle. A median position hardly seems possible.

I imagine words would fail. Perhaps I'd understand why they do it if I were more sporty myself. I could only equate it to how I might feel if I were ever to win a slam :)
