The Sign of the Times

Government cuts, no ifs or buts.

Buses to rural areas, cut to the bone.

I need to book a taxi to get home.

Sundays no service at all.

Better get to the shops.

Heavy bags fit to drop.

Used to be every half hour.

Very useful in an extreme shower.

Now The Big Society has gone sour.

Nobody cares, we are all unawares.

We cannot afford to come in from the cold.

Politicians have answers that are bold.

Everybody is getting poor and old.

Benefits cut in real terms.

This is what it is like to be in the old firm.

I remember when times were good.

Everybody had access to a council house.

Now we feel like scroungers, like a louse.

Where have all the jobs gone.

We are no longer one.

More positive things could be done.

Bankers have been the major game players.

Wasting our money, treating it like honey.

We do not think the financial sector is funny.

So this is the story of the 21st century.

I am a sign of the times.

Why should I pay for society’s crimes?

Durham County Council have restricted our local bus services. There is no bus from Bishop Auckland to Tow Law after 7.30 in the evening. Recently I walked from Durham to Willington. It took four hours.

There are no buses on Sundays!

The title comes from a great song by Prince.
