Knowing Me, Knowing You

This is about my Community Psychiatric Nurse who retired seven years ago. He is a very funny, principled man.

When I last saw Ken
He reminded me of those men
Forgetful and always saying when
Remembering the past, the now and then
As Talking Heads said, “Same as He Ever Was”
Doing things as only he does
For him life’s ups and downs are to love
As he flies on the wings of a dove
His wife Chris is very understanding
Because, guess what, Ken is quite demanding
A challenge, like a lunar landing
A mean cynic, of some standing
He always winds me up
With three sugars in his cup
He didn’t buy a stray pup
Because the raffle tickets cost too much
He likes Norman, he likes Wisdom
He likes Sunderland, he likes Wisden
He likes Thailand, he likes Dresden
Saving money is one of his life’s lessons
Ken loves to holiday by Loch Fyne
He’s a great friend of mine
But he angers me down the line
But that’s O.K., in fact it’s fine
I would not expect anything less
Than Ken putting me to the test
Because at challenging and counseling he’s the best
Sometimes he says no, sometimes he says yes

He was there to help a fallen woman
He was there for the Police and the beat up man
He helps in any way he can
To allow people to have independence as they gan
Life is starting to catch him unawares
He has trouble climbing the stairs
But he who wins dares
That’s why Ken likes Tony Blair
Bye for now from Ken and Chris
For three years their company I’ve missed
Life is a joy and it is hard to resist
So I am going to add Ken to my Facebook Friends’ list!
