Ten Green Bottles

Forty white windmills sitting on the moor

Erect and mobile sprouting from the grass floor

Last year there were six, now big business wants more

Victory is theirs through sterile local planning law

If one white windmill should accidentally fall

There’d be 39 windmills sitting on the moor

A Site of Special Scientific Interest we did implore

We had already endured a mad cow burial site’s gore

Our streams and water tables polluted to the core

Lorries full of dead calves leaving our souls sore

If one white windmill should accidentally fall

There’d be 38 windmills sitting on the moor

The farmer wants £3,000 a year a windmill rent

Electricity companies see it as money well spent

Whilst sheep gaze at grass shoots heaven sent

Cows swish their tails wondering where the moment went

If one white windmill should accidentally fall

There’d be one less windmill sitting on the moor

For 25 years a proud windmill standing for all to see

For miles around people admiring a scientific victory

But I argue vehemently and make nature’s plea

Don’t be proud of wasteful, inefficient, big-business technology

If more white windmills should accidentally fall

There’d be a lot less windmills sitting on the moor

Use your imagination, live in the moment for real

Go stand on that moor, all alone, with zeal

Stare at an orchid standing small yet tall and get that mystic feel

It’s nature, not technology, that offers a special deal

If all the white windmills should accidentally fall

There’d be no windmills sitting on the moor

And I, for one, would be less forlorn

enjoyed reading this clever piece-as for me? give me the open moors and the larks song anytime-and windmills? mmm-somewhat debateable-thanks for the poem-regards-SW.
