Bloody students?

Students are rioting once again

Throwing rocks at the ‘filth’ behind shields

We’ve not seen this since Maggie’s reign

It’s about time the young got political

Wait! Well-brought-up students have principles

It can’t be them who attack, smash, sneer

Well-brought-up students, they’re all smiles

It’s such fun protecting their future career

But violent rent-a-mobs are always there

Whenever there’s a chance to smash it up

Revolutionary mobiles to the ear

Coordinate, infiltrate, not here to shop

Here to smash windows, here to rip

Derailing a peaceful, civilised cause

But wait! Have you noticed how much zip

The news contains when there’s bodies on floors?

So welcome the anarchists, break down the doors

Break mine down even, because that’s how

Things get changed, it seems, under freedom’s laws

There’s no other way this system allows

The only way to make Parliament bow

To mass opinion is to hire

Some crusties and jihadists now

To overturn some cars and set them on fire

Brownshirts and Blackshirts long retired

Or strumming on some mushroom cloud

Look down in comfort and admire

The way their tactics still have clout

The flaming torch can’t be blown out

It’s the only way to get things done

Speak eloquently; better, shout!

Let’s play at being the Taliban

We are up against the Great Satan

(Not the States, of course, we love it there!)

We mean the Con-Dem coalition

The lowest life-form since… Tony Blair

And we all remember the failure

Of those anti-Iraq no war marches

A million voices, all hot air

Silly! You get nowhere with politeness!

Those in power, they’ve got the police

They’ve got the army, and NATO too

Those who aren’t, they’ve got arms and fists at least

It makes sense to use them, and no need to queue

No need for approval by interview

No need for examinations or degrees

The only ambition is to make the news

That’s how to make them talk about tuition fees

But how else in civilised societies

(Where the bottom line is sacrosanct)

Do voices get heard? Your views please

Well Banksy, I guess the universities are already privatised and need to make a profit first and foremost - but the schools aren't... yet!!

I really couldn't say old chap.
It just seems jolly queer that we pay kids to stay on at school yet charge the blighters when & if they go ont to further education. I'm sure there's some logic there somewhere??

Hi guys. Philipos first - well i might read it at an open mike yeah. Might also submit it to a political site i know.

Yes Banksy - that's certainly a valid point. The actual students or most of em don't seem that worried as far as I can tell. Certainly not enough to smash things up anyway - after all, they're well-brought up BRITISH young people (not French). Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with the more direct French approach - it gets results (and that's part of my point). I wonder, is it just arts students who spend their whole time getting wrecked and S***ging around or do science students do that as well?

Hi Antonionioni - allow me to have the first say - there's quite a lot to take in here and certainly the views are still currency as I see it and I can quite see how people got riled one way or the other according to which side of the political divide they hung their views - the overspill from Iraq still rankles deeply - my question is, how do you propose using this? Open mike or what
