FAMILY FUN RUN

My heart hangs heavy with dismay

nothing changes,

we've heard all the excuses.

The need to cull

to prevent starvation,

TB. prevention,

rare tree preservation,

conservation heroes all,

with no justification.

But in reality

they gather for fun,

for their recreation

this noble beast must run

               - - - run for his life.

They have chosen the biggest and the best

to liven the race,

using relays of horses and hounds

to prolong the chase.

As he runs, he is dying.

With hounds yowling and crying - - -

and biting his flanks

-----he is shot - - face to face,

                          bled and dismembered.

Triumphant Masters are

back-slapped and applauded,

impressionable children,

traditionally rewarded-----

                                  by ritual blooding.

Stag hunts are confined to two hounds, but both horses and hounds can be replaced with fresh ones as frequently as required, enabling stags to be chased for hours until their bodies break down. Exhausted stags are eventually forced to turn to face their fate and are shot at close quarters. If they are lucky enough to escpe they are unlikely to survive and die a lingering death.

In the beginning, the world was theocentric; then man placed himself at the center, and this was called "humanism"; now comes the era of post- and transhumanism (when "everything is permitted"), which is moving toward a "flat ontology", in whose coordinate system man is made equal to a plastic bag; there is no longer any place in it for nobility and hierarchy. The dismemberment of Marius the giraffe in February 2014, before the eyes of children, as an Overton window, speaks of the same thing. But we are endowed with godlike freedom and are not obliged to accept these ruses. The world, as it was in the beginning, so it has remained.

Sergey, who can disagree with you?
By the way, this poem was not a product of my imagination but was prompted by a 'Sabs' video of this beautiful animal being killed while hounds were clawing at his flank and rump, and he had turned to face the gun.
The children were taking part in a fox hunt.
How can these be justified?.

The image of the deer runs quite deep: nobility set against the hunting thrill of those intoxicated by their victim's blood. It goes beyond the cause of animal protection.

Sergey, such chilling words,
I can't begin to understand how 'we' can inflict such pain and terror on a living being and glory in it.
Thank you for reading; I wouldn't blame anyone who chose to bypass it; truth is harsh.

His soul doth quake within his blood with dread;
The final moments, thick to touch, run slow
And close for ever all the path ahead.
In frosty air his breath doth come and go…
He gazeth on Death's face with eyes aghast,
Yet nobly bears him to the very last.
