A Necklace Round The Moon

The thunderous storm begins to dissipate,

as clouds disperse into the newborn night.

Wild waking woodland whispers of its fate,

and moonlight paints the world in silvered light.

A tawny owl soars up against the sky,

with gimlet gaze to search the ground below,

then cautious movement draws his watchful eye

and down he dives, to deal his prey’s deathblow.

A gentle breeze begins to stir the trees,

and drain their boughs of water from the storm,

while slowly now the waiting watcher sees

the land around him starting to transform.

The stars emerge above him, bright as noon,

appearing like a necklace round the moon.
