Of An Obscurity Of Poets
A parliament of owls will gather round to have a chat,
and spread the wisdom gathered through the day.
A passing murmuration sees no relevance in that,
they’re more concerned with aerial display.
A whole bazaar of guillemots is searching for some food,
those succulent crustaceans off the beach.
The foxes would be skulk-ing, but the birds are far too shrewd,
so fowl for now’s completely out of reach.
A sudden shoal of mackerel are spotted in the bay,
by hungry herring gulls in colonies,
competing in their numbers for this plenitude of prey
with puffins in improbabilities.
A skein of geese flies overhead, ignoring all the fuss,
departing once again for warmer lands.
I often think that they are more intelligent than us,
uncircumscribed by modern life’s demands.

...more intelligent than us?
perhaps so, in which case, may I suggest that, in deference to them, we name ourselves
"A quill of poets" 😏
