The Distance I Chose

Standing far apart from colleagues' crowded space.

I wear my silence as my shield.

Not because I fear their voices, their presence,

But knowing their whispers lead to destruction.

They once betrayed my trust,

They turn a simple moment into a tale untrue.

Inventing words I never spoke

Painted lies, unjust, covering my body in shame.

ย They cast me as the villain of the story they created.

I became their content to fill their empty spaces.

I became their joy because my isolation is their happiness.

My presence is their grief.

I chose to isolate, my decision, my life... because I love them, still.

Irina, this is a real-life story of mine. Working in a 'Nepotism' place is very challenging and indeed cautious. ๐Ÿ˜”

A deeply moving piece!

As a psychologist, I see a profound internal conflict here, driven by a rejection trauma. Your verses vividly capture a complex spectrum of feelings: the raw pain of anger and indignation against colleagues' betrayal, balanced by a bittersweet longing for love and attachment. A beautiful, vulnerable reflection on protecting your inner peace where a person consciously chooses silence as a shield and distance as a coping strategy to not get hurt again.

Thank you for sharing! ๐Ÿ‘
