June 2026 Collage Poem: Songs of the Underpass

entry picture

A small blue hush across the Old West

Tracks load down into dirt track

where wild eyed poets scream and laugh

of the darkness the love to dance in.

Fragmented pigeons ignore give way

signs to reach their third heaven

lines of human traffic run along

pads polite as downhill penguins

keeping heads bowed away from connecting eyes

>   THE MELODY I KNEW BUT DIDN’T CATCH THE WORDS

>   SHARE MY THOUGHTS SIDE BY SIDE

Ladies at the tomb.

In the underground ballroom

with the sounds of Girls Aloud

In my quiet corner

I knew the words but had forgotten the Waltz

Crooning, rolling, chirping,

Music pervading every avenue of life

The Stazi arrested Orpheus and his lyre

and empty busking hat were seized

down in the underpass

A Grim Mix

The love to dance in
down in the underpass
Ladies at the tomb
of the darkness
scream and laugh
in my quiet corner
lines of human traffic run along.

You must call down again Uilleam just take care when reciting your poetry there are more dangers that lie in in the underpass
than getting arrested.

Ah Stockport. A few years since I've visited.
Would I risk arrest, reciting poetry in the underpass?😊
