Sunshine
You said once that I was the sun,
Always so bright and blazing,
Always so warm, so lovely
With my evergreen smile and booming laugh.
You said I had a soul made of gold,
A heart so big that dragons would cower,
But what if I told you,
I don’t feel quite so golden anymore?
What if I told you,
There are cracks in my being
That bleed darkness into everything I love?
They splinter like fissures on glass,
They threaten to pulverize me.
What if I told you,
I’m afraid I will scorch anyone
Who dares to come too close?
All my love has turned into fervent anger,
And I am terrified of what I will do with it.
You said so much before, but tell me now,
What do you do with a sun that burns out?
What do you do when it can’t warm you anymore?
