Groundhog ‘SHIFT’
6:30 AM: Get up, sore back.
7:30 AM: The traffic’s stacked.
8:00 AM: The clock-in machine.
8:10 AM: Go brief the team.
A few slow hours drag on by,
Until the midday dinner chime.
The same old meal deal on the seat,
Just forty minutes to rest my feet.
12:45 PM: Back at it again.
2:00 PM: Caffeine hit.
3:00 PM: This job is shit.
5:00 PM: Home time.
6:10 PM: Be home in 5.
7:00 PM: Shower time.
8:45 PM: Cig and bru.
9:00 PM: - night kid, love you.
10:00 PM: Im knackered me.
11:00 PM: ‘are you asleep?’
7:00 PM: Kids' shower time.
8:45 PM: Cig and bru.
9:00 PM: - night kid, love you.
10:00 PM: Im knackered me.
11:00 PM: ‘are you asleep?’
Groundhog Day, or so it seems,
But let’s rewrite the daily themes.
Let's see how a positive spin
Can change the mindset from within:
6:30 AM: Another day of life, lets go!
7:30 AM: Least the sun is putting on a show!
8:00 AM: Another day another dolla.
8:10 AM: Give the old boys a massive holla!
The times absolutely flew on by,
Mmm, DINNAH TIME, get in my belly, pie!
Thank you for this food ill eat,
Free 30 mins to put up my feet.
12:45 PM: Right, let’s smash it lads!
2:00 PM: Honestly todays been a right old laugh.
3:00 PM: We only work so we can live!
5:00 PM: Buzzing to see the wife and kids!
6:10 PM: Honey im hoooome!
7:00 PM: Let’s pretend the baths a boat!
8:45 PM: Ill read you this funny story I wrote.
9:00 PM: - big kiss on your head,
love you kiddo, im off to bed.
10:00 PM: Hows your day been sweet?
11:00 PM: Goodnight sweet dreams x
You see, for some, just like me,
The loop can feel like a defeat.
We expect the same old blues to stay,
Each and every boring day
But a switch of thought, a little ‘shift’,
Can turn the grind to a proper gift.
Coz tomorrow isnt promised u see,
Some people wont wake like you and me.
So laugh at the madness, grab a jar,
And be grateful for this life of our's.

That's right, Matthew. Seek out the positive - it's the only way to stay sane. But before that, in this poem there's a masterly depiction of the everyday, day-to-day
