World Cup dreaming! Scotland’s makar Peter Mackay puts together a people’s poem
As World Cup fever mounts in Scotland, makar Peter Mackay put a call out for folk to send him one or two lines of poetry to create a collective World Cup 2026 poem by the people of Scotland. He then assembled the lines into a World Cup poem, ‘Gie it laldy – Scotland Dreams of the World Cup’, and recorded it.
The poem references Scott McTominay’s overhead bicycle kick which helped get the team to North America. You can read and listen to it here
