You Are the Sunlight After the Rain
Today, I am dust upon the windowpane,
just another nothing learning the mundane.
Or perhaps, I am drops of rain,
with no certain place to call my lane.
But I am not the reflection you see in the mirror,
yet I am someone drawing nearer.
I am too many things,
if you’re asking.
But You were always bigger than my aim.
When I was ready to give up,
all my broken pieces were finally being summed up,
so I tried to learn Your name.
You are the sunlight after the rain,
leading me beyond the pain.
You are the gentle light that made all the flowers bloom,
where every part of me remembered the warmth of the womb.

In the Qur’an, there is a surah named An-Nahl, meaning “The Bee.” In one of its verses, it is written:
“And Allāh has sent down rain from the sky and given life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who listen.” (65)
A teacher once said that sometimes God reminds His servants through failure, disappointment, or through things we initially perceive as hardships.
After all, success and victory can sometimes give rise to pride. Perhaps certain struggles are placed in our lives so that we may remain humble and remember our dependence on Him.
