PROPER MAD DOWN AT BELLE VUE
There once was a lion named Lou,
Who fancied a walk past the zoo.
He roared at the crowd,
Made the kids shout loud—
Then settled for chips and a brew.
A lad on a bike, fast and bold,
Raced ‘round the Speedway, uncontrolled.
He slipped in the mud,
Cursed the fairground crud—
But still, he was pure Manc gold.
A lass on the waltzer did spin,
With a cheeky and wide toothy grin.
She shouted, “Hold tight!”
Through the flickering light—
Till she kissed a lad with a chin.
At Kings Hall, the wrestlers would fight,
Big Daddy was quite the sight.
Gran cheered from her seat,
Cracking sweets to eat—
Till they brawled out of sheer delight.
The fair’s gone now, all quiet and still,
But memories spark like a thrill.
So raise up your glass,
For days that did pass—
And Belle Vue’s magic lives still.
