Readers may be questioning the relevance of the picture of a Cumberland Sausage to my poem?
An ancient Pythagorean formula holds that the length of a metrical foot should ideally be inversely proportional to the length of a sausage.
Indeed, Odysseus, whose early poetry received scathing reviews from his contemporaries was forced to admit:
“My wicked belly always gets me into trouble”.
