My Heart (NaPoWriMo Day15)

Love of places, love of things,

wretched birds with broken wings,

new romantic flutterings

have space within my heart.

Distant cousins, absent friends,

wayward folk who make amends,

hopes for how the story ends

have space within my heart.

Beaches, mountains, lakes and trees,

floral scents upon the breeze,

those momentous memories

have space within my heart.

Inspiration from my muse,

catching up with welcome news,

laid back evening barbecues

have space within my heart.

Starting wars, ending lives,

cities bombed where none survives,

High Streets plagued by crime with knives.

Be strong my breaking heart.

I like this poem. When it gets to "laid back evening barbecues" you can almost smell the summer air at that point; there is a drift, a waft into realms of perfumed sunset and fantasy.... but then in the last stanza we have the turn and it turns out the poem has a more serious intention than first it seems. 😎
