Vacuuming

entry picture

Another one from my 'Sketching in Ireland' while Exploring Possibilities manuscript.

Vacuuming

With every pull toward your body

you expect obedience.

Expect each tiny micron of dirt

to be sucked up and away –

captured.  Tied

neatly in a disposable bag

then tossed out with the rubbish.

Controlled.  Dealt with, put out.

Never mind – away – forget.

Look at the attention you give stairs?

Suck one way – consistently,

pulling reticent fluff – not letting

it roll out of reach.  I always

give you that same

attention to detail – insist on

being thorough – maximum

pleasure. A consistent suck.

How do I become like stairs?

Now that is an interesting poem Frances.

A clever division of words between the penultimate stanza and the last.

I like the subtlty of suggestion within it.
