SKYLARK ON THE MEADOW
by David RL Moore
I'm lying in the wilder grass
my back upon warm ground,
daydreaming as the moments pass
not lost, though neither found...
I'm in-between the many worlds
untethered from their pull,
where all beneath the Sun unfurls,
each precious moment full...
an azure sky of timeless depth
holds all my thoughts at bay,
that not one worldly interject
might draw my mind away...
a skylark sings my boyish past
of summers turned and gone,
as if he knows this will not last
he lifts my heart with song...
and I, the ever-hopeful fool
wish myself upon his wing,
that it is me who breaks the rule
to forever hear him sing.
