My Hero - Bruce Willis
Die Hard, 1,2,3,4,5 – you stayed alive...
Picking off the bad guys
Such physical perfection in my eyes
Burning down buildings, sliding off planes
Packing your guns and your hand grenades
I could’ve been Helen to your John McClane
had the shoulder pads, the perm and the big 80s hair
the tremulous lip, the ‘don’t truck with me air’
All American hero in the land of the free
Fighting for justice for you and for me
__________
‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ is the book the films were based on
And as dementia steals your moves, your memories, your lines
I reflect on the irony of how - the land - now lies…
For the bad guys are in power and they’re wielding it hard
And the real heroes are dying on the streets and in their cars
Armed with mobile phones and a knowledge of what’s right
Fighting a system where all that matters is might
Where might is money and money is might
And we’re losing the plot and there’s no end in sight
For all their climate change denying, this planet’s dying at our feet
And though the polar caps are melting, their ice is spreading as we speak
So come back Brucie, die hard one last time
Make America Great Again – in a slightly different guise
Cos the bad guys are in power and they’re wielding it hard
And all the real heroes are dying on the streets and in their cars.

Thanks for your comments chaps, and your encouragement.
We are all so powerless really - but putting it down in a poem somehow helps deal with that and at least it's a record that we objected.
