Not Churchill

‘He’s not Churchill’

Who knew?

But then the speaker isn’t Eisenhower

Isn’t Kennedy

Biden

Either of the Bushes

Isn’t Ford

Teddy Roosevelt

Isn’t Franklin D

Or Truman

Washington

Lincoln

Isn’t even Tricky Dicky

All these men had faults

Failings

A taste for war

Uncontained sexual appetites

A disregard for the law

One should have stuck to making films

Another was famed for an inability

To simultaneously walk and chew gum

Others mangled words

Or were too slow

Still more squandered opportunities

But one thing in common

In which they could all rejoice

Not one of them was Trump

Thanks for the comments - even if 'none of the Vance ' adds to the nightmare! And yes, there were a number of aspects of Churchill which don't bear too much examination. I was surrounded by people who saw him as a hero when I grew up, and the dark side only became apparent to me later. Still, there was a positive side, difficult to find with Trump

Fine poem, Tony. The terrifying thought is that in a few years time, we may add Trump to the list and say "none of them was Vance". It couldn't happen, could it? Heeeelp!

A cracking last line, Tony.
True self-awareness is not exactly a Trumpian quality.

Hi tony,

I suspect the first reaction of many to Drumpf's Churchill quote was to suggest exactly who he wasn't. My immediate reaction was "and you're no Roosevelt"

As a balance, there are a couple unfortunate similarities between Trump and Churchill that are best not aired. That said Churchill despised golf, as any proper Englishman should.
