Birdstone

entry picture

Searching for the cane break
The cold spring, the sand camp
Lost in Colorado river hemp
Hummingbirds weave between yellow blossoms
Bluegills tuck into shady bank
Among dead stumps, submerged branches
Working our way up every holler
Cold water and the taste of limestone
From the quiet of the cutbank
To the clearing above the cliff
Wind blows stiff from the south
Carrying the smoke from my mouth downstream

Hey Ray, holler/hollow is a valley between to mountains or hills. The ones I'm talking about run up between limestone cliffs that surround a big river near me. Start at the mouth of one and work your way up, every one is different and beautiful, and most of the time it's rough going.

Enjoyed the scenery. I found out what a canebreak is, but what kind of holler is that?
