One for another
Let us not talk of lover’s past
Of shoe horned hours in which
We have kissed and made up
Of heavens death or glory swipes
Of that which should have been
Of opportunities soured and missed
The day that this or that
Was not all it should have been
Let us instead talk of the thrall
Of that first sight that kiss
That embrace that was
That still is all that was promised
Let us not scour the lines
Of some cheap and tawdry novel
Let us lose ourselves in each other
Without becoming the limpet hangers
On to another’s story
Let us instead make stories of our own
Together and for one another
Let us not live our lives just as
Thy and thee and you and me and us
Let us be the fusion of so much more
Than, just you and I
Of some people we once knew
Now standing together on a shelf
Let us be forever entwined
Those who are not trapped in root and vine
But to be two and yet one together
