February 6: Ronald Reagan Day

Visit from an Old Neoliberal

Upon a long and weary voting day,

a faint intoning on the Senate floor

revealed a quaint and curious display,

a ghostly fellow with a pompadour.

He spoke with neoliberal aplomb:

Deregulate the business world, declare

their taxes cut in half, and keep the calm

with vows of trickle-down and laissez-faire.

I recognized the Gipper and his charm.

I asked, "But didn't you anticipate

the consequences, doing endless harm

to millions while your actions concentrate

the wealth among the rich?" "Oh well," he sighed,

"I guess I took the people for a ride."

I guess he did, Paul, and so have one or two since! I seem to remember that the trickle stopped rather quickly.
Nice poem.
