Paradise Lost Book VI: Brothers in War

 

The angels came as one to join the fight

against the demons. Every chariot

and steed and girded spirit would unite

against the soul of hell, to carry it

away to darkness. Armed with quiver, bow,

and cannonry they filled the battleground

with deadly waves of fire, their eyes aglow

with resoluteness Godly and profound.

 

A dark despair consumed the demon horde,

for each combatant thought about his own

well-being. Every demon shield and sword

was soon abandoned as the overblown

Satanic plan to show their hellish might

was thwarted as the devils reeled in flight.
