January 15: Dr. King’s Birthday
Martin Luther King’s Dream
The Reverend King espoused nonviolence.
An eloquent and charismatic man,
he championed civil disobedience
through boycotts. As a speaker he began
to rise to prominence, despite the threats
and bombings by the racist malcontents.
But lack of progress frequently begets
impatience. Looting, fire, and violence
became the norm. Yet King had great success
with voting rights and urban poverty,
and now he turned to Vietnam, to stress
the senselessness and immorality
of war. A call to justice could redeem
a troubled nation. This was Martin's dream.

Your poem does justice to this important day, Paul. The delicacy of its rhythm is a joy.
