Wonderland

 

A rabbit with a pocketwatch? Behold

a Wonderland of curiosities:

 

a caterpillar on a mushroom, bold

and surly, lifting smoke rings on the breeze;

 

a dodo bird, a giant puppy dog,

a Cheshire Cat embellished with a grin,

a cranky Duchess and a doorman frog;

 

a Hatter, Hare, and Dormouse who begin

their tea at six o'clock, and end their tea

at six o'clock (it's always six o'clock!);

 

a dimwit King, a Queen whose sole decree

is taking heads of subjects, and the shock

of Royal Court in frenzied disarray

as playing cards (the guards) are swept away.
