These words are made for walking: Milton Keynes puts writers on the map
Milton Keynes Lit Fest is mapping the city in a multimedia project to capture people’s experiences in relation and response to specific places – houses, streets, buildings, parks, trees, lakes, bars.
Lined up are workshops in schools and community settings facilitated by practising writers, and online masterclasses in using poetry, short fiction and creative non-fiction to write about place and location. There will also be downloadable resources to inspire and guide before writing.
Lit Fest organisers are curating a selection of submitted pieces to create a web-based StoryMap, where you can click on linked locations to read – and hear – poems and stories that they’ve inspired, often illustrated with images, too. They will also be creating SoundWalks – guided routes through particular areas or neighbourhoods that link a series of texts and recordings in audio tours of local creativity.
