Wet Christmas

I'm dreaming of a Wet Christmas

Just like the one we had last year

Where the tree tops drip

And children slip

To see grazed knees upon the ground

I'm seeing a wet Christmas

With every sunlit morning rise

Where the wind is howling

And shoppers are scowling

To find that next Black Friday deal

I'm feeling lots of eyesight appointments

With all the screen time that we share

When your eyes are piercing

To see that magic feeling

Of a gift that hopefully will be right

I'm sensing a lot of late nights

Tidying up again and again

Wrapping paper and tinsel

In a house that's warm and special

To feel that feeling that you've lost

Are the 2nd and 5th lines deliberately not rhyming in order to accentuate disillusionment? I'd say yes if I were you.
It's piercing, btw.
