**When Dogs Became Saints of the Street**

entry picture

In a strange, inverted world, where humanity seems dim,
And compassion flows more freely for the creature's every whim,
A human tragedy unfolded, stark against the night,
Yet street dogs earned their laurels, shining ever bright.
No showbiz screen bestowed this praise, no glittering acclaim,
But social media's fervent plea, whispered their good name.

Last night, a whisper in the wind, a chill that gnawed the bone,
A newborn, frail and tender, utterly alone.
Wrapped in thin linen, scant protection from the night,
Discarded by a lavatory, a fading spark of life.
Unguarded, unprotected, in winter's icy grasp,
Left to the cruel indifference, breathing its last gasps.

A cruelty laid bare, a deed profoundly ill,
To cast an innocent away, against all human will.
To bring forth life, then scorn its breath, on frozen, bitter stone,
A question hangs in silent air: "Why was this seed sown?"
Oh, for the day humanity might waken, stand upright and true,
And shed the darkness of a heart, so cold, so deep, so blue.

But from the shadows stirred a pack, with instincts pure and deep,
A group of street-wise canines, guarding a child's sleep.
They formed a living barrier, a circle warm and tight,
As if a precious puppy shared their solitary plight.
A human scene avoided, a mercy left undone,
Yet these four-legged guardians, the silent battle won.
The sordid truth, the dogs' embrace, across the net took flight,
A testament to kindness, shining ever bright.

Thank you Stephen for your kind words! I'm so glad the poem resonated with you—hope and goodness deserve to shine. 🌟

Your words resonate deeply—nature's quiet resilience does hold up a mirror to our restless imperfections. Thank you Shifa for seeing the heart of it so clearly.

Your poem presents such a powerful contrast between human failure and the glimmer of hope nature offers. We could learn so much from the world around us, and we choose not to. Beautiful and timely poem! Thanks for sharing this.

A lovely poem of hope and goodness, Ghazala. And it flows and rhymes so well.
