A sense of Christmas.
Outside, bright gold and crimson bows hang large on frosted trees.
White snowflakes dance merrily in a gentle winter breeze.
Bells chime lyrically, heralding midnight, Christmas Eve.
Santa delivers presents to children who still believe.
The sound of reindeer hooves on the roof, clip-clop repeat,
Unaware, the girls and boys who are blissfully asleep
Dreaming of Christmas morn, nestled under warm eiderdowns
Santa halts his sleigh in the snow that's settled all around
A small dram of Scotch whisky helps Santa ward off the cold
With a note wishing him ‘Merry Christmas from young and old’.
There, centre stage, twinkling, a multicoloured bright-lit tree
A splendidly decorated celebratory treat.
Children's stockings hung by the fireside, neatly in a row.
Orange candle flames flicker; dark shadows dance in the glow.
White frost-kissed windowpanes frame this magical winter scene.
Carefully, he places their presents beneath boughs of green.
The colours of the festive season extend love and joy
Bringing happy, smiling faces to every girl and boy.
Red ribbons tie the presents: On the tree, a golden star.
Whilst silver-blue and white flashing lights twinkle from afar.
Very early the next morning, the children rushed downstairs.
Santa Claus has been, now to discover which gifts are theirs.
Mum and Dad look on with love as their children run about.
This year’s Christmas will be the best, truly, without a doubt.
