Deceit of the Plunderers

The eager sportsmen hear the haunting strains

of trumpets on the grassy range. They chart

their twisted pathways on abundant plains

with pearly brilliance certain to impart

an air of manliness. With expertise

in sleight of hand they hurriedly devise

a scheme to spirit treasures on a breeze

to sacred vaults, and there the rogues apprise

their patrons of their harvest, gleaming piles

of ivory, and join in jealous trysts

to guard the cache like glutted kleptophiles.

But comes a promise from these hedonists,

that earth in all its grandeur will provide

till primal appetites are satisfied.
