School Days
School Days
Another day of learning,
some cheerful, some fretful.
Clad in their uniforms
an army of students
They arrived by bus
boys an girls.
All wearing their compulsory garb
boys in short trousers
Others in long pants
each with a blazer
A cap and a pullover
with collar and tie.
Sporting their school colours
of navy blue and red.
Non Nobis Domine
not unto us of Lord we pray
Girls in black sensible shoes
with ankle socks and gymslips
Blazers and straw boaters
hair neatly cut or curled
All with blouse and tie
in the school colours
Non Nobis Domine
not unto us O Lord we pray
Boys and girls in regulation
blazers with woven insignia
Crossed keys
given by Christ to St. Peter
Boys reluctantly wore caps
as the morning parade
headed for their respective schools
All with leather satchels
crammed with exercise and text books
This army of scholars marched foward.
Non Nobis Domine
not unto us O Lord we pray
The day began with an assembly
where all were gathered in the great hall
Students in regimented rows
before a stage of staff members
the Head, his Dputy and the priest
We sang hymns, recited the Lord's Prayer
followed by more prayers and on Feast Days
The School Anthem
Non Nobis Domine
not unto us O Lord we Pray
Those days are long past,
only memories remain
We grew physically, intellectually and in stature.
