A Call to Arms
A Call to Arms
The call came on Sunday at dawn
a nation filled with trepidation
It was expected yet dread filled their hearts
as a second world war had begun
Some went to church, others moved the lawn,
most were in a daze
They knew what lay ahead
and were filled with dread
So began six years of hostility and violence
human beings wasted as disposable souls
Cities were bombed relentlessly
as those on the home front cowered in shelters
Millions systematically poisoned to death
persecution and murder were rife
They knew what lay ahead
and were filled with dread
The haunting sound as sirens wailed
bombs exploded with homes destroyed
Food rationed, barely enough to eat
letters of condolences, the death of a loved one
Peoples lives destroyed and broke
homes reduced to a pile of rubble
They knew what lay ahead
and were filled with dread
As we conmemorate the fallen
we live to repeat these horrors
Crazed politicians and dictators
run amock and call for war
Once more we hear the call
yet again we take up arms
to repeat past events and wars
and for God's sake why?

Thank you Keith. Some attempt to justify wreaking death and destruction, by claiming that it's in the name of their God.
