A Seeker Abroad
Finding my traveler theme…
Somewhere between
James Bond and James Dean
Or, more in the spectrum
Jason Bourne and Jason Statham
Okay, maybe for certain
Jack Reacher and Jack T. Colton
Okay, okay, maybe more in the zone
Bear Grylls and Indiana Jones
Fine, somewhere between
Bourdain and Steves
Okay, sure, fine
Then, perhaps
Bono and Borat
Closer? Now I think I’m on track
Jack Sparrow and Jack Black
Or maybe more like
The Dude and The Rock
Or, even better
Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock
Somewhere between
Channing Tatum and Jackie Chan
But more precise
Bonaparte and Dynamite
Okay, even that I rebuke
So, instead
Forrest Gump and Raul Duke
Probably someone more akin
Arthur Bach and Josh Baskin
Warmer still, somewhere among
Arthur Miller and Jack London
Okay, maybe a bit less drama
So…
Somewhere between
Buddha and Brahma
Though, in actuality, let’s be real
Jesus of Nazareth and The Man of Steel
Wow, now I couldn’t be colder
How about between
Giorgio Tsoukalos and Fox Mulder
That’s more like it
Now we’re getting hot
Even better yet
All the family and friends I got
They each brushed something off onto me
My ancestral globe-spanning Portuguese
The prose of my Grandma
The knitting from my Granny
The grace of my Mother, the ethics of my Father
The style and humor from my charming siblings
My international kin from another mother
And I hope a bit of this recipe passes down to the younglings
So I’m not as accomplished as Bourdain
Nor as talented as the great Jack Black
But I surely have the wanderlust of Jack London
And the childlike sentimentality of Arthur Bach
I may not have the bod of Channing Tatum
Nor the charisma of Jason Statham
But I surely have the travel chops of Steves
And the dudeism ethos of Lebowski
I may not have the bravado of Bond
Nor the mad skills of Reacher or Bourne
But I surely have the romance of Jack T. Colton
And the love of Fox Mulder for porn
So I’ll always wish I could be Indiana Jones
It’s a miracle I can pretend to even feel close
Whomever this traveler spirit is inside of me
I reckon there’s a greatest version still yet to be
