Dóchas ní Fuath!
Tá scamaill dhubha sa spéir
tús mhí na Samhna.
Rough translation:
Hope not Hate!
There are dark clouds in the sky
the start of November (Samhain)
Le Uilleam Ó Ceallaigh,
Dé Domhnaigh, an dara lá de mhí na Samhna,
dhá mhíle agus cúig is fiche.

As a dabbler/beginner, knowing what constitutes a syllable in Irish, is one of the difficulties I have when attempting to write actual poetry, however simple. Listening online to nursery rhymes and proverbs recited by Irish speakers is a great help.
