Sehnsucht
I've never seen or heard of you
But every day I rue
Of your presence in its immutable absence
While succumbing to delusion in its very essence
I think of you when I gaze at the moonlit sky
I think of you in every tired sigh
I think of you in laughter and light
I think of you in the darkest hour and plight
I imagine you holding my hand when the days grow cold
And hushing me soothingly when the world gets loud
I dream of you caressing my face, brushing off tears
While whispering and placating, vanquishing my fears
I imagine your euphonious chuckle as I rant over vexing people
While we're walking down the streets at dusk
Smiling and warm like an old couple
Who's seen it all - the paradise and the rubble
I long for you without knowing of you
I wait for you even if you aren't true
Few call this limerence, saudade
A daydreamy hallucination
While I? I call it Sehnsucht
