The Sad Sack Dance
I met him by the roadside
Standing tall with shoulders wide
He smoked a fag I couldn’t abide
And asked me if I’d come inside
A dull linguistic polymer
A tiresome interlocutor
Who cares when promiscuity
Rears its head, it grins and tempts me
Unknown and hardly trusting
Inside the room we fornicate in
In and out, in and out
Breathing, fucking, no room for doubt
Of where this cataclysm ends
Hardly lovers, barely friends
Do YOU know that his husband sends
His reassuring love?
15 minutes later he shouts
Loose, internally hollowed out
That thudding loud ventricular sound
Shudders inside me, up and down
The empty shell that’s used and tossed
The heart left in a beatless frost
An empty gaping echo chamber
Nothing left to save for later
That quick repeating motion complete
He’s gone, I’m here beneath the sheet
With only silence left to speak
Of selfish infidelity
Unbeknownst to me.
