In Transit

I rode the train
With my earphones in
I pretended I
Did not exist
For a time it worked
Then the train lurched
And reality blurred
Into something worse

The carriage shifts
Beneath my feet
From left to right
Like the sea
Every movement, every sound
Breaks pieces off of me
Every shake upon the ground
Drags me further into the deep

And they all see me for who I am
A broken shell
A broken lamb
They see someone
So done with life
They see me in a whole new light
