Echoes: ‘a glorious anthology… bursting with delightful poems’ Buy now. Limited stocks.

The Scream or a Shattered dream?

I look at it, and I hear it.

It is taking everything within itself.

Should I even bother to ask for help?

It’s loud as the whitest cloud.

It’s rough as the winter cough.

It’s long as the Mediterranean dawn.

The echo that evokes my darkest thoughts.

Is in the air and in the lake moss.

Is in the fog and in the endless forest’s force.

Can you hear the scream?

For your ears are only made to hear, it seems.

Can you see a shattered dream?

For your eyes are only made to see, it seems.

It is so vast it makes you believe it will forever last.

It is so relentless it makes you feel harassed.

It is so convincing it makes you believe you’re trapped.

Inspired by The Scream by Edvard Munch, as it is one of my favorite art pieces.

Hello David,

Thanks so much for your kind words. It’s always encouraging to hear that the feeling came across before the explanation since that’s exactly what I hope for when writing.

Great to hear you’re also inspired by art in your poetry. Is always nice to connect with a fellow art-inspired poet!

Hello Raquel,

the fact that I recognise the subject of your poem before the footnote, gives credit to it. That you describe it subtely yet with enough accuracy of feeling to poke the imagination of the reader is a gift.

I also find pictorial art inspiring and often attempt to write on it.

I really enjoyed this poem.

David
