Oh Happy Christmas Time

Oh, Happy Christmas Time.

The annual occasion of joy it's Christmas time.

Full of sentiments, hope, joy and silly rhymes.

Families gathering from far and wide.

To which the rules of harmony they must all abide.

A year of silence between them has gone by.

But now they all must wipe the tears from their eyes.

Brother, Sister, Auntie, Uncle, Mum and Dad.

Must ignore all the things that have been bad.

The arguments concerns and disagreements.

That plagues any family with siblings, in laws and parents.

All come together under the same roof.

Having to live for real as a family, ignoring the truth.

Snipes, the digs must be put aside.

Only the elders have any right to decide.

What can happen and what can be said.

The unwritten laws of Christmas are clearly read.

People holding their breath and biting their tongues.

Swirling in falseness they are completely thrown.

They gather around the big fake sparkling tree.

Inspecting their presents eyes full of expectant Glee.

Pretending just for this moment they are all as one.

And the battles don't matter, or they had already won.

The unending sound of torn wrapping paper.

Eyes full of disappointment something to savour.

The presents quickly thrown aside with total disregard.

Because their selfish annoyance and anger they must guard.

People spend according to how they really care.

Complaining is out the window you just wouldn't dare.

So, the battles raged again for another year.

As you and your family live in a real and constant fear.

That this situation will come around again too soon.

And it will be the same people in the same room.

The true happiness of Christmas for all to see.

We are so grateful this occasion happens annually.

Loved the truth telling, ( however, I am also a big fan of Christmas)

Thank you so much for your hard work in composing what I find to be the the typical story of how many families deal with what should be a joyous time and as you rightly say in some cases can also be anything but.

Thanks so much Tobani. Look forward to your next posting
