Serves 1
left alone
only for the afternoon
got me thinking,
is this what it would be like
without you?
measuring the minutes
between the meals,
I bought a ready-meal,
lasagne not my favourite
by a long chalk,
thirty minutes at 180
middle of the oven
I nearly forgot to take
the plastic film off,
a glass of wine for one
stands there, ominous
like a poisoned chalice,
I always told you
when we mused over dying
that I hoped you’d go first
the thought of leaving you
alone unbearable,
but now
looking at this bloody sad
tray of lasagne
I’m not so sure.

Well let's eat this sad supper together then, Graham. And why not call that love? Why not?
